| Administrative History | Frederick Herbert Crossley (1868-1955) of Chester, architectural historian, was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He published widely on the subjects of church architecture and furnishings and his works included The English abbey: its life and work in the middle ages (first published in 1935, with later editions); English church craftsmanship (first publihsed in 1941, with later editions); English church design, 1040-1540 AD.; English church monuments A.D. 1150-1550 (first published in 1921 with later editions); English church woodwork (with Frank E. Howard), (2nd edition, 1927); Timber building in England (1951). He also published extensively on church architecture and furnishings in relation to Cheshire and North Wales. |
