Letter from Austen Chamberlain to Sir [Chairman, Liverpool Conservative Club]
Letter from The Lord Admiralty on 13 January 1898 saying that he has been asked to go up to Durham to help the candidate there, and the only way he can do this is by 'foregoing visit to Liverpool and luncheon at L'pool Conservative Club'. 'This is a great disappointment to me but it would seem that I can for the moment be of more use at Durham than in Liverpool.'
