TitleLetter from Anthony Eden to Mr J. J. Tinker, with accompanying letter from Tinker to Mr Knowles
Extent2 items
DescriptionLetter from Anthony Eden to Mr J. J. Tinker, written on War Office paper, concerning a suggestion made by Mr Knowles 'that the concessions at present enjoyed by soldiers serving overseas in respect of the use of their cars whilst on leave should be extended to soldiers on the Home Establishment who are stationed some distance from their homes. Unfortunately, however, there are serious administrative objections to adopting it. Units and men on the Home Establishment are constantly moving from one station to another and would not readily understand why, for example, concessions given when they were 150 miles from home could not be given when they were 50 miles away...any concession...would have to be extended to all home forces', 13 June 1940. Letter from Mr J. J. Tinker to Mr Knowles sending him Eden's letter saying that it 'shows why he cannot grant our request', 15 June 1940.
