Access StatusOpen
Administrative HistoryOne of the few drawings in the collection that references Alma-Tadema’s early life in Holland. The Hunnebed are a site of megalithic graves and a popular tourist destination in the province of Drenthe in north east Holland, about 50 miles from the city of Leeuwarden, where he spent his childhood with his mother and siblings. This sketch appears to have been drawn in the open air, on the small pages of a pocket sketchbook, later stuck together and added to his personal collection.
