TitleLetter from Lawrence Alma-Tadema to George Henschel
Extent1 item
Date1895
DescriptionWritten from 17 Grove End Road, St John's Wood, N.W., dated 31 October. Alma-Tadema regrets that he will not be involved with Sir Henry Irving's production of Julius Caesar at the Lyceum but complains that Irving asked him to 'imitate Gerome's pictures amongst my scenes as if I could be brought to copy another'. He goes on to say that only an artist can understand and assess an artist's work and concludes: 'I feel it very much that Irving should belong to those who don't know & don't respect'.
