| Description | Postcard to Harold Lemon c/o H. E. Irving Taylor dated 27 June, which reads the address 'Ashlawn, Reigate' and Alma-Tadema's comment 'with best wishes'. The picture on the postcard is a photograph of Lawrence Alma-Tadema.
It is possible that H. E. Irving Taylor is Sir Henry Irving [real name John Henry Brodribb] (1838-1905) who was an actor. Alma-Tadema's role and interest in the theatre had let him to collaborate with scene painter Joseph Harker, for example in 1890 where he was involved in the scenery for a play where Sir Henry Irving and Arthur Bouchier had leading parts. Alma-Tadema was one of the pall bearers at his funeral.
The postcard was a production of the 'Rotary Photographic Series', which had also produced a postcard with a photograph of Henry Irving. |
