The letter concerns Alma-Tadema's wish that the committee will persuade Orchardson [Sir William Quiller Orchardson (1832–1910), painter] to 'become our President of the Portrait painters'. He comments on how the more he thinks about it, the more he wishes that 'he may honour our society by accepting its leadership'.
