TitleLetter from Lawrence Alma-Tadema to Mr Richmond
Extent1 item
Date1895
DescriptionLetter written from 17 Grove End Road addressed 'My dear Richmond' dated 28 January 1895. Alma-Tadema asks the recipient if he would consider standing in for him at a meeting of the Royal Institute of British Architecture. He explains that 'in a weak moment' he agreed to do a presentation on the Value of Simplicity in Architecture but says 'my mind is not turned in that way of talking theoretically and so I have given it up as impossible'. He describes the recipient as a 'master in that sort of thing' and writes that the membership would be looking forward to 'what a painter has to say on the subject'.

The recipient of this letter is likely to be one or other of two artists by the name Richmond: George Richmond (1809-1896) or Sir William Blake Richmond (1842-1921).
