TitleLetter from Wenzel to Pratt: 2 December 1809: Kakara
Extent1 doc.
Date1809
DescriptionAt a meeting on 26 Oct it was agreed that the Wenzels and Barneth should occupy Kakara, with intent to acquire Susu, and that Renner and Butscher go to Bashia to educate native children. The journal 30 Oct-6 Dec tells of their settling at Kakara with Butscher's help and of visiting for recognition by local chief. Wenzel has begun, in the intervals between repairing, trading and fever bouts, an English-Susu dictionary, and has reached the letter U. He speaks a little with the aid of the dictionary and grammar - "sometimes they help me to the proper words, sometimes they laugh exceedingly".
