| Title | Letter from Secretary to Butscher [copy]: 26 November 1813: London |
| Extent | 1 doc. |
| Date | 1813 |
| Description | He reassures him of the Committee's constant concern for the Africa Mission. Delay in communicating this over the 'Charles' ' loss was due only to ignorance that the 'Albicore' was sailing to West Africa. The notice of the shipwreck in the newspaper was through CMS desire to arouse widespread sympathy. He thinks that Butscher should not have doubted the Society's support. CMS asquiesces should Butscher accept the Chaplaincy provided that he still acts as CMS representative, superintendant of CMS schools and missionary to the heathen in and near the Colony. He asks Butscher to read the Instructions at Rio Pongas, take a copy, and forward them, as well as the parcels for there and Yongroo. He emphasises the giving up of redemption of children and rejoices in the good news of the liberation of Europe that Butscher will find in the accompanying newspapers. |
