| Extent | 1 doc. |
| Date | 1812 |
| Description | He and Wenzel have been to Banee Island to baptize about 300 persons (liberated slaves) between 7 and 28 years old from 21 nations. Among these were recruits for the Army in West India and from these 32 couples were married according to Wilberforce's wish. They did their best, through interpreters, to explain the meaning of the rites. Governor Maxwell has ordered the baptsim of children apprenticed to inhabitants of the Colony and is establishing a school. Nylander resigned his chaplaincy on 1 Oct, and when the Bullom king returns to Yongroo he will settle there to learn the language and instruct the children. He asks for copies of Lancaster's spelling, reading and arithmetic books. Unfortunately many settlers in the Colony have refused the oath of allegiance and fled to Yongroo. |
