DescriptionHe is in grief at the death of his wife from the malignant fever, brought by a ship 3 months ago, which has wrought havoc in S. L. and is called by the Nova Scotian settlers the "bone-broken fever" from its causing bone pains and delerium. He is distracted as to how to care for the 45 children who are pining for her. Mrs. Davies and Mrs. Nicol are caring for his children, Mary and Charles. He and K. Macaulay have chosen the site on Leic. Mt. for the Institution, and the schoolhouse and other rooms are being built. Meanwhile a soldier who taught for 2 years in the military department is in charge of the schoolchildren and will go with them to Leic. Mt. when the buildings are ready.
