| Description | Expresses gratitude for his protection to the missionaries on the Rio Pongas. Missionaries have not acted as government spies; the naval attack on the slave trade received no information from them. CMS knows that this trade enabled the natives to obtain European goods and is anxious to establish cultivation of crops leading to legitimate industry and trade. CMS would welcome a larger settlement under Fernandez' authority, which might develop into an agricultural and trading community. He is asked to consult with Klein on this. |
