| Title | Letter from Renner to Pratt: 15 July 1815: Sierra Leone |
| Extent | 1 doc. |
| Date | 1815 |
| Description | He has been delayed in S. L. by an inflammation of the leg but is now ready to return to Bashia. Nylander asked him to admonish Sperrhacken and he duly did so in a special meeting. Butscher persuaded him to hand over 2 of his boys, Stephen Caulker and George Lancaster, to be trained as schoolteachers for Leic. Mt. Despite Wilhelm's accusations he finds all the Bashia children well behaved. Before leaving Bashia he was involved in an incident when the natives carried off a woman from the settlement saying that she was a witch. In the ensuing confrontation Renner had to draw his cutlass but did not have to use it, and the woman survived being made to drink the "red water". Renner spoke to Fantimani before Mungke Bake about this, but he claimed to know nothing. Sometimes Renner despairs.
