Description	French corvettes with troops for Goree and Senegal arrived on 18 Jul but have not yet received permission to land. Hughes does not know what to do as he has no wish to go elsewhere on the West African coast, including the new settlement of St. Marys at the mouth of the Gambia, but would prefer any healthy island in the West Indies [the Caribbean]. His wife gave birth to a daughter on 21 Jul but the child has since died.
