TitleLetter from Pratt to Butscher [copy]: 9 August 1815: London
Extent1 doc.
Date1815
DescriptionThe child Henry Henman may be called to England by his patroness to have his education completed. Store for the Leic. Mt. project are being forwarded. Col. Maxwell will not be returning to S. L. Mr. Sanders was unwilling to bind himself to CMS and is going to St. Domingo.
Schoolmasters William Augustin Bernard Johnson, Henry During and Christopher Jost are in preparation for Africa but Pratt wishes that they had pious Englishmen to send. He is unsure as to whether Bashia should be rebuilt or not. A visit to the Mission by a "confidential friend of the Society" is necessary as shown by the Kleins' and Hughes' behaviour in their unauthorised removals from S. L.
Butscher did right in not making common cause with Sutherland who had no authority to make the offer. Should all education in the Colony fall to CMS the Director of the African Institution would be well pleased.
