TitleLetter from Pratt to Harrison [copy]: 10 August 1815: London
Extent1 doc.
Date1815
DescriptionThey have received Sebastian Pearce's letter to his father. The Society has full confidence in Harrison and will be paying him a salary of £100 p.a. He was unjustly suspicious of what the late Mrs. Hartwig reported of him, although his conduct in Plymouth was, in fairness, suspicious. Perhaps Hughes' report of her statements misled him.
Fernandez is mistaken in thinking that the Society's motive for placing Harrison at Bashia was to prevent attacks on the settlement, Harrison being a relative of Fernandez. Nevertheless this is a happy accident. The Society regarded Fernandez as a true friend and was surprised by Klein's removal from Rio Dembia apparently because of discouragement by Fernandez. A member of the society is to be sent out to investigate the mission.
