TitleLetter from Wilhelm to Pratt: 4 September 1815: Canoffee
Extent1 doc.
Date1815
DescriptionHe is shocked at the suggestion that Bashia settlement be abandoned. Renner has commenced rebuilding and there has been no trouble with the natives despite Ormond's proximity. He points out Pratt's error in supposing that the land could be "made over" to them: Susu custom allows only for temporary grants. He requests that a pewter clyster-syringe be sent out to replace that destoyed in the fire.
On 14 Aug he married Henriette Meissner and on 20 Aug an American slaver by name of 'Gale' came and, in exchange for tobacco and gunpowder, carried off some 440 slaves. He asks that no notice be taken of any request from R. Wilkinson for money.
