DescriptionPreaching could not begin until Dec as following the rains the natives are entirely occupied with settling quarrels by palavers. At first things went well but then the man-of-war was stationed in the river to disrupt the slave trade. The natives became very hostile and even threatened the missionaries' lives, and consequently the Rio Pongas mission has had to be suspended.
