| Title | Letter from MacCarthy to Pratt and Bickersteth: 21 August 1819: Sierra Leone |
| Extent | 1 doc. |
| Date | 1819 |
| Description | Following Collier's death he was forced to bring Renner to Freetown but Mrs. Renner was persuaded by the people to remain in Leopold. He feels that Collier died through neglecting his health. He notes with concern that the Wesleyans have baptized many more people in S. L. than the CMS missionaries. He feels that the absence, however temporary, of a missionary from his station must undo much good work. Postscript: He states his views regarding the salaries necessary for missionaries to maintain themselves and explains his own conduct in this. |
