DescriptionHad intended opening English school at Mayabooram, but not enough pupils to warrant it; has appeal from Karekal which is more pressing and the town's English schoolmaster Sooparaya, a heathen, is willing to go there; has visited and examined schools at Tiroonellaroo, Karekal, Nagore and Negapatam; John Devasagayam went with him; Bell and Lancasterian systems of teaching are used; intends visiting some schools monthly, to raise the standard of instruction; has 20 seminarists and hopes that grant for this work will soon arrive and, if possible, be increased
