DescriptionHas sent copies of 'Missionary Register' 1813-1814, reports and some copies of an address by Dr. Buchanan to missionaries; Schnarre and Rhenius sailed from Portsmouth 22 Feb; sends copies of letters to Thompson and Dr. John; asks that corresponding committee or auxiliary associations be formed when possible to help with gathering of funds and management of affairs; repeats that CMS have authorised T. and Udny to draw up to £500 per annum for furthering views of society in India; CMS recognises danger of "puffing up" such men as Abdul, but must with caution give information to supporters; congratulates them on appointment of Dr. Middleton as their bishop; knows him personally as vicar of St. Pancras, P.'s parish; P. had introduced Rev. W. M. Johnson as chaplain of the poor-house of St. Pancras, who was much esteemed by Middleton; archdeacons for Calcutta and Madras have been appointed; archdeacon of Calcutta is young "much to Dr. M.'s dissatisfaction as he wishes men of weight and experience"; CMS will appoint deputation to meet Middleton before he sails, and P. hopes he will work happily with CMS; Mrs. Brown has been taken under the protection of the court [copy]
