DescriptionAcknowledges letters from Thomason and Schroeter; CMS income in 1816 exceeded £20,000 and 40-50 offers of service have been made, but more would have come forward had funds allowed; asks for regular subscriptions from Indian friends; is glad of purchase of Calcutta site; Bernard and Deocar Schmid, Mrs. D. Schmid, and Mr. J. Adlington are coming out with Corrie; will consult Calcutta Corresponding Committee on his plan for college at Benares for training a native ministry, and on developing Christian institution at Calcutta; stresses importance of regular reports from missionaries giving information about the actual conditions of Indian life, with drawing, idols etc.; Colonel Bannerman, new Govenor of Prince of Wales Island, and the chief justice are friendly to CMS, should it start work there; Mr. Grant advises conference of chief members of CMS designed to procure admission for missionaries to church pulpits in India, meanwhile no final steps should be taken till recent events in England have shown their influence on the bishop; Mrs. Mary Musgrove has been dead some time [see 38]; sum paid to Calcutta Corresponding Committee will be refuded to Parson [copy]
