DescriptionThe welcome news of the conclusion of the school arrangements with Jay Narain was received the day before the annual meeting, at which there was a record attendance and an excellent sermon by Noel; sends T. copies of his abstract of the proceedings of the SPG, compiled to promote unity in their common cause with CMS; asks C. to tell Thomason that the bishop of Calcutta proposes to found a college near Calcutta with the £5000 voted him by SPG, for educating native and other missionaries and for the translation of the bible and prayer-book, and that the SPG has approved; the bishop told the archdeacon of Colombo there was no objection to ordained missionaries preaching at the church in the Pettah, if preaching to Europeans was part of their mission [copy]
