TitleLetter from Secretaries to Deocar Schmid: 21 January 1820: London
Extent1 doc.
Date1820
DescriptionHis removal to Calcutta to carry on publication work was not intended to detract from his missionary duties; he is warned against a too discursive and speculative spirit apparent in some of his writings; rather than embark upon the ambitious projects suggested in his 'Memoranda' which would require an immense amount of erudition and research, the Committee would prefer him to devote his energies to learning the vernacular and becoming fully acquainted with the natives and their way of life; his letter to Mr. Wilson has given Committee pain by its assumption of independence and lack of humility and charity, and its opinionatedness on matters outside his own province; the Committee approve his and Mrs. Schmid's work at the asylum [copy]
