Description	Encloses annual list of free English and Tamil schools [33b]; John Devasagayam returned from Tirutekenapoly having spent 20 days with the bishop of Calcutta; the archdeacon of Calcutta intends to support some promising Christian youths; on his return D. examined the country schools; some of the children showed poor progress; it will be necessary to send an inspector round once every three months; 13 Mar held a general examination of English and Tamil schools in Tranquebar; Greenwood and Schroeter were there; the older children have completed the translation of 'Advice to Youth' by Rev. Basil Woodd and have translated 'Christian Principles' from Tamil into English; four of the seminarists are now translating into Tamil the memoir of Bower Smith.
