Mrs. M.'s illness forces him to leave for England; the Rani of Travancore has endowed the Syrian College at Cottayam with Rs. 20,000; the money will be used for land purchase; wishes government would help financially.
7 Apr 1818: Quilon: Munro to Thompson: extract:
Sends copy of report recently addressed to government; government pays Rs. 1000 to the Verapoli institution. Rs. 50 or 60 monthly to Roman Catholic churches at Calicut etc., but nothing to Syrians; Rajan of Cochin has presented Rs. 5000 to Syrian and Protestant missions; M. has considered appropriating this entirely for southern mission under Mr. Meade (copy)
