DescriptionVisited Neranum on 7 May and stayed until 18 May: accounts had not been investigated for 8 years; church in bad state, neglected revenues and the catanars at variance with each other; B. resolved most difficulties and appointed 4 churchwardens (in place of only one); church in bad repair; during visit there was a 'chatam', commemorating the death of the metran; about 5000 people were present, and there was tight-rope dancing, music and processions; asks for advice relating to stopping such customs, as not much good may be done amongst the people until such ceremonies are abolished (copy extract).
