DescriptionArrived with Mrs. F. at Cottayam on 8 Oct, Bailey has proceeded cautiously and has now brought the Syrians to a state of preparation for the absolutely necessary alterations it is proposed to make; Travancore has been blessed by presence of Col. Munro, the improvement he has effected is great "several years have elapsed without any internal commotions or intrigues; most of the royal monopolies have been abolished; and yet the revenues of the Crown have increased beyond all expectation. Courts for the administration of justice have been established which was before committed to the care of the revenue officers. Corruption and bribery have received suprising checks".
