Edward Simons, benefactor to the Calcutta School Society; have sent 120 reports for 1818, the 'Quarterly Papers' and the 'Philanthropic Gazette' by the 'Sappho'; pleased to hear of arrival of Fenn, Barenbruck and Baker; have heard from Baker relating to marriage to Kohlhoff's niece; approve it, though he should have waited for committee permission; wish to have exact returns from Madras and South India mission including Travancore, of number of schools, children, native teachers (with names and surnames); "the number who hear the truth through them and our missionaries, the tracts and copies of the scripture which have been distributed" (copy). |
