TitleLetter from Pratt to Thompson: 26 May 1819: London
Extent1 doc.
Date1819
DescriptionGlad that things sent by the 'Vittoria' arrived safely; will improve on the organ when sending one for the church; hope all is settled relating to magistracy of missionaries; surprised as T. was relating to change in D. Schmid's destination; printing press may be sent to Calcutta or used in Madras; sends some copies of book 'Propaganda' written by P. but published anonymously "lest the workman should offend"; bishop of Calcutta proposes to establish a college near Calcutta with the £5000 sent him by SPG for the education of native and other missionaries and for the translation of scriptures and liturgy; poor Mr. and Mrs. Dawson having spent the winter in Devon have gone into Yorkshire for the summer; Schmid's letter to Ram Mohun Roy is excellent; S. is somewhat too speculative in his opinions in part of his letter to Pratt; "I trust you will get on well, on the whole, with your rather capricious governor" (copy).
