Extent1 doc.
Date1819
DescriptionIs about to leave India; is thankful that Fenn is working with Syrians and that Mr. Knill is in charge of the Southern mission; the establishment of efficient system of education at college, translation of the Bible and strict enforcement of ecclesiastical discipline are some of the first means requisite for reformation of Syrians; more missionaries will be needed; first importance is translation of Bible; version of four gospels printed at Bombay is now found so bad as to be unfit for use while the version of the whole scriptures made by catanars at the college is as bad; all depends on Mr. Bailey's work of revision and he is very unwell; printing establishment at Cottayam is highly desirable; has recently visited many Syrian churches with Mr. Fenn and was much impressed by him; the Southern mission is making rapid progress under Mr. Knill [copy].
