| Description | Minutes with agenda papers, budget papers and miscellaneous carbon copy typescript reports pasted in. Volumes 1-3 have sub-committee minutes appended at the end of the volumes. All of the volumes have name and subject indexes.
The minutes record candidates' offers of service, the receipt of references, interviewers' remarks, college reports and the Committee's resolutions regarding individual candidates. They also include sub-committee reports, lists of examination results and training college reports.
Until 1921 the Women Candidates Committee gave a report at each meeting so the minutes also include references to women candidates. |
| Administrative History | The Candidates Committee was formed in 1906. Its primary role was to examine and recommend candidates for approval and nomination as missionaries of the Society, and to decide on their training.
The Committee received reports from the other sub-committees dealing with candidate issues and training (see CMS/C/C). Decisions regarding individual candidates were based on a combination of these reports, personal interviews with candidates and discussion of a candidate's application papers and training records, all of which were discussed at committee meetings. No man was accepted for training, or nominated for acceptance as a missionary, without a personal interview with the Committee. |
