Description/1: 8 December 1834: has arrived safely with wife and son John; would like to be appointed as clergyman in Sierra Leone.
/2: 8 September 1835: has not heard from Coates; still hopes to work in Sierra Leone; they have had a son born 21 August; son John is well.
/3: 7 November 1835: acknowledges letter; is willing to go out as catechist even though he is an ordained minister; [Jamaica] is an 'agreeable' field of labour as it resembles Sierra Leone; is uncertain whether he is to work under CMS or government; intends to leave their two children with relations.
/4: 9 December 1835: will leave for England as soon as possible; wife has to wean the baby and is also anxious to spend Christmas with their relations (as it may be for the last time); hope to arrive in London the second week in January.
