| Description | /1: [Received 10 July 1821]: applies on behalf of the students for English Bibles; had asked brethren Jetter and Deerr when they were all at Basel. /2: 13 July 1822: thanks for Bibles; they will be most useful, especially as they all expect to be sent to the 'East Indies'. /3: 14 September 1835: encloses letter to forward to his wife and child; the long separation from his family has been a painful trial; Fjellstedt brought back to India a letter from Winckler's eldest son which made him realise that he had gone too far in his suspicions of his wife; asks Coates to help bring about a reconciliation. /4: 22 February 1836: agrees with Committee that it would not be suitable for him to return to India; has heard that his wife has consumption. /5: 3 January 1837: reports shipwreck on 29 November, near Hellevoetshuis, which prevented him going to New York this winter; hopes to spend a few months at Dusseltahl or Barmen; wife has asked to hear from him once more before she decides to rejoin him. /6: 25 October 1838: refers to two sons, Christian and James [in India]; wife does not wish to join him in Germany but wants him to return to India with his family; he cannot do this; asks CMS to send his children to him and presses his claim as their father; asks for copies of his children's birth certificates. |
