Description/1: Letter to CMS Committee, dated 13-25 August 1821: sends copies of new editions of Gospels published by Russian Bible Society during the last year.
/2: Letter to Josiah Pratt, dated 27 April 1822: acknowledges box of reports; forwarded one complete set to Rev Blackmore, British chaplain at Cronstadt; 'a Roman Catholic priest named Gossner has been eminently blessed both to Protestants and Papists. He preaches on Thursdays as well as Sunday' 'there is a simplicity and purity and a savor accompanying his preaching which is greatly to be sought after by every preacher of the gospel'; he holds a monthly missionary meeting.
/3: Letter to Josiah Pratt, dated 12-24 March 1823: acknowledges box of publications; suggests cheaper way of sending to save CMS expense; Gossner has 600 or 700 at his missionary prayer meeting; on Sunday mornings he preaches in the Maltese church, on Thursday in the Roman Catholic Metropolitan church and on Sunday evening in a large hall which costs 6,000 roubles a year to hire (paid by unknown, said to be 'the good Alexander'); the Emperor has given 3,500 roubles to the London Missionary Society.
/4: Letter to Josiah Pratt, dated 26 August 1824 (O. S): acknowledges arrival of printed books and papers; 'a blessed change has taken place of late in the sermons etc. etc. of the chaplain'; Prince Galitzin and Mr Papof have now no more officially to do with Church or schools; 'Good Mr Papof' is on trial in a criminal court on account of some passage about the Virgin Mary which was to be printed by Pastor Gossner; Mr Mitchel, who brings this letter is the son of a Scottish missionary resident in Russia for over 20 years and was born on the Caucasian Lines; he can give information on Scottish and Basel Society missionaries; was very saddened by death of Mr Church.
/5: Letter to Bickersteth, dated Sarepta House, St Petersburg 21 September 1831: forwards letter from Mr Dittrich and introduces Egerton Hubbard who returns from a visit to St Petersburg.
