Description
Dated 18 February. Is sorry that no suitable schoolmaster for Mangalore has been found; can only proffer three students to CMS this year as their own work needs recruits; Mengat [Mengert] at Taleichey has left because he was not allowed to marry and has joined the Propagation Society; Sutter is on his way home recovering from a disease of the liver; commiserates with Coates and the Africa Civilisation Committee on the failure of the Niger Expedition; urges a second effort; trusts that the Lord will 'open the way to the Galla nation'; Muller seems afraid to go there like 'a good natured but somewhat timid soldier who after his first battle would retire from war'; welcomes establishment of English bishopric in Jerusalem; Mr and Mrs Hildner left Basel a fortnight ago; will offer Brenner at Malta, now dismissed from CMS, the place of of Secretary (assistant writer) at Basel.
