TitleLetter from Dr William Hoffmann, Constatt near Stuttgart
Extent1 item
Date1845
DescriptionDated 31 August. Is spending a month here on medical advice; Kruckeberg was also sent to Constatt as he was not well when he reached Basel; he is now recovering; asks for an extra allowance for his medical expenses. Following the fire which burnt down their preparatory school, the principal, Mr A. Troescher, died 'of nervous fever'. Asks for two further pamphlets on New Zealand and a brief notice on 'every source of information on the question by which your name was often named in the parliamentary debates'; this would help him to refute arguments against CMS published in the 'Allgemeine Zeitung'; 'mercantile jealousy has already moved so much national spirit in Germany against England that I am jealous too not to let creep that feeling into the mission-circle'.
