TitleLetter from J. M[atthew] Weiss, Malta
Extent1 item
Date1845
DescriptionDated 26 February. Acknowledges letter of 5 February concerning his future work; had been glad of the prospect of working at Burdwan but is happy to accept [work at Tinnevelly]. Understands that although 'I have only to labour with the dead metal and have only to spur the labourers to the fulfilment of their several duties you will consider my labours as those of a missionary to the heathen'. In accordance with instructions, has sold the type-foundry and part of the lithography; there are several works to be finished before the press can be sold, unless a person can be found to see these through the press in which case he can leave Malta at once; hopes to be ready to leave before the end of Mar but is not likely to reach London before end of May or beginning of June. Has sent all the remaining Arabic publications to Kruse except for 4668 books and tracts (Arabic, Italian, Spanish and French) and 308 Italian books [lists some titles]; the Greek publications are packed up but not yet sent to Hildner at Syra; the Italian stock will be handed over to Mr Lowndes of the Bible Society.
