TitleLetter from Reverend Theophilus Blumhardt, Basel
Extent1 item
Date1825
DescriptionDated 19 December. Mr and Mrs Jetter have arrived and Mrs Jetter has already established some English schools; Gobat, Muller and Lieder have come to Basel; Lieder has been refused by 'Miss G'; Muller's young lady is only 18 and 'we felt ourselves constrained to give him our paternal advice about it'; was very surprised that Mr Haensel has offered to be a schoolmaster in Sierra Leone 'his moral and intellectual attainments seem to qualify [him] for a quite larger field of missionary operations'; would it be a good idea if the German students were presented for Anglican ordination, subscription to the 39 Articles does not appear a hindrance; understands that in Bengal 'their clerical character [as Lutherans] is rather disavowed by some leading men of the church and in the same time they are forbidden to have any conversation with dissenting ministers'.
