Description | Dated 25 October. Basel Committee are building a new college and are to sell their former house; C. F. Spittler is anxious that the building should not be 'converted into a manufactory' and proposes that while a small part of it could be used as 'an asylum for old Christian dames' the greater part could be used for the establishment of a Protestant Female Missionary Institution, the equivalent of the Roman Catholic Sisters of Charity; CMS support and encouragement would enable the scheme to be used for mission work abroad; Basel are asking for £8,000 which is the current market price 'this truly is a large sum of money... [but] there is no other alternative but to pay it, if we want to use this house as hitherto for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God'. |
