Description | Dated 5 April. Has received Steinkopf's translation of J.'s letter of 16 March. Has consulted Mr Dawes, who thinks only one settlement desirable at first; subordinate stations could be set up when a thorough knowledge of language, customs, etc has been gained. If J. will say freely if he thinks Mrs Barrett [Barneth] likely to be a useful missionary the committee will seriously consider sending the family out. Committee will probably desire ordination as J. suggests when this matter is decided. Committee does not normally desire missionaries to be married before their first term of service, but has no objection to an engagement to be followed later by marriage. Does not know whether Stracke has received Renner's letter and the CMS publications. |
