TitleLetter from Reverend Thomas Scott, Hull
Extent1 item
Date1806
DescriptionDated 17 June. Regrets that he has not sufficient room to accommodate probationers, nor could he spare sufficient time for training them; Mr Dawes, late governor of Sierra Leone, who has taken part of a mansion at Bledlow, might be able to help, and Mr Gilbert of Bledlow might also; Scott would be willing to give lectures once or twice a week; 'such are our habits in England, that the style of living even in the most frugal families of clergymen, who are not lamentably poor, seems to me rather unsuitable to young men who are to go forth on the perilous and self-denying service of missionaries, but in Mr Dawes's family and examples they would see almost the life of missionaries realized'.
