Descriptionpp 188-189 minutes of a special meeting of the Committee of Correspondence attended by Captain FitzRoy RN (1805-1865), [Governor of New Zealand 7 April 1843-1845], in which he comments on the influence of the Society's missionaries on the way in which the British Government had been received in New Zealand: 'they and the Protectorate department were the only persons in New Zealand who had any extensive influence with the Natives; & that without their influence and instrumentality it would have been impossible for Her Majesty's Government to acquire the sovereignty of New Zealand, or to carry on the Government' 7 August 1846.
