Description | Precis book for Educational Committee meetings 22 March 1901-20 October 1909. Comprising manuscript, mimeographed typescript, and printed copies of agenda papers on the left hand page, and related Committee resolutions, recommendations and action on the right hand page. Prior to 1905, the Committee's resolutions and recommendations were written in, after 1905 typescript copies of minutes were pasted in as a record of resolutions etc. Although primarily based on precis of incoming correspondence and papers, the volumes functioned as a working record of Educational Committee agendas, resolutions and action and include occasional items for which there was no related incoming correspondence, for example, recording where a meeting was held but given over exclusively to interviews with named individuals or consideration of educational regulations.
Agenda items are numbered in a continuous number sequence for 1901-1902, thereafter in a single sequence for each year. Giving the despatch number, date, name and (location) of correspondent, date of receipt, a summary of the contents and business [for recommendation or resolution]. The records of action taken ('how disposed of') largely comprise the name and date of the CMS committee to which the matter was referred, cross references to related records, or the initials of the Secretary responsible for any follow up correspondence, with the date of said correspondence.
A note referring to papers on educational work, including three articles in the Intelligencer 1899 and a paper by Rev[erend] C. W. A. Clarke issued as a [CMS] Centenary Pamphlet, are pasted in at the front of the volume with a printed extract of an agenda paper for the General Committee 9 October 1900 giving the recommendation of a Special Committee on Educational Work to form a Special Committee on Education to encourage the development of educational work in the mission-field and to encourage interest and raise funds at home.
The volume should be used alongside the Educational Committee minutes. |
