| Description | He gives account of his voyage to S. L., which was interrupted by a sea-fight between the English brig 'Daring' and 3 French frigates which forced him to lie up behind the Isles de Los[s] in Sambia country, where the Alimame Dulla Samba provisioned him and his seven companions for 6 weeks. At S. L. he heard news of Butscher's shipwreck, and on 9 Mar Butscher visited him at Bashia, telling of Quast's death at Domingo and of Mrs. Meyer's at Goree, and the loss of supplies. He and Butscher went on board the ship at Domingo to greet Mrs. Butscher, Mrs. Quast, Meyer and the Meisners. Renner then conducted the funeral service for Quast. After removing the goods Butscher had purchased from the auction held for the benefit of the underwriters of the shipwrecked vessel, Renner returned to Bashia. He has been able to retrieve a runaway girl by the goodwill of the son of the local headman. Three ships have been taking cargos of slaves from the river, as no naval vessel has visited it for months. He asks for a clock and stationery for the children. |
