Arrangement	The original papers [incoming: O1-43] were entered in the mission books in the order in which they were received at headquarters. The letters were copied out in full, while a note of receipt was made for journals and financial papers (as distinct from finance letters) and printed papers. From June 1862 the entries for each are numbered (the original papers [O1-43] being likewise numbered, usually in red ink). The books are indexed by names of correspondents and some subjects. From 1867 the annual letters [a yearly account by missionaries of their activities] are copied out or (if printed) pasted into the backs of the volumes.
