Administrative History | Irene Tatham, SRN, S.Th, worked as a nurse in India before being recruited by the Church Missionary Society to work in Bengal. Under CMS, she nursed at Hiranpur Hospital 1932-1936. Her health caused her to return to England on furlough in 1936 and, in 1937, she resigned as she felt unable to return to India to take up a new post training nurses at Hiranpur. She remained in contact with CMS in England and, in 1942, joined the CMS Medical Committee. In 1948, she was appointed Principal of 'Foxbury', the CMS Women's Training College in Chiselhurst, Kent, England, a position which she continued to hold until she retired in 1957. Prior to her death, she lived with fellow CMS nurse, (Bertha) Muriel Tisdall, whom she met at Foxbury. Muriel Tisdall trained at Foxbury before working in Iran 1945-1953 and the Harpur Memorial Medical Hospital, Old Cairo, Egypt 1961-1964/65.
