Administrative HistoryDr (Edith Victoria) Elfrida Gelsthorpe, née Whidborne (1901-1989), MB, BCh, MRCS, LRCP, CMS medical missionary in Sudan.

Daughter of Rev George Ferris Whidborne and Lucebella Whidborne of East Grinstead, Sussex. She began her missionary career in 1929 working in the Omdurman Hospital in Northern Sudan, specialising in infant welfare. She also worked in the Nuba Mountains area and Salara. She resigned in 1949 on her marriage to the Rt Rev (Alfred) Morris Gelsthorpe (1892-1968), Bishop in the Sudan.
Custodial HistoryDeposited with the CMS in July 1982 and transferred to the Special Collections Department in 2005.
