TitleCMS Accession 495: Copy of a mid-19th century pamphlet by Rev [Henry] Townsend with six lithographs of West Africa
Extent1 item
Date[?Early 20th century]
DescriptionA xerox copy missing part of the title page text and part of an inscription. An article in the April 1850 issue of the 'The Church Missionary Gleaner' (page 5) indicates that the pamphlet was first published in England at some point between April 1848 and December 1849. The date when the copy was made is not known; from a manuscript inscription on the original from which the copy was made, the copy dates from no earlier than 1899.
NotesThis catalogue was edited 19 July 2024 with information kindly supplied by researcher, Benjamina Efua Dadzie: 'the original would have been compiled between April 1848 and December 1849 when Henry Townsend was in England on furlough. In the CMS Gleaner ... makes mention of it, stating that it was published when Townsend “lately visited England” which would have been between April '48 and December '49. Townsend’s timeline of movement between England and West Africa is based on my own research from the CMS archival material and other sources.'
ArrangementThis collection forms part of the Church Mission Society Unofficial Papers. It is arranged into one series.
